Images of a Flowing, Transitory World

by Danny Lulu and Paul Sakai

2020

Images of a Flowing, Transitory World, takes its name from the Japanese word Ukiyo, originally a Buddhist expression for the transitory nature of life, involving a cycle of birth, suffering, death, and rebirth.

Created during the 2020 lock-down, the songs on this album were constructed remotely in parts by each musician. The melodies, sounds, and rhythms are laments for the cultures, families, and communities that we have been disconnected from. But they are also conduits; hopeful vessels that can carry these things into a new future, regardless of its uncertainty. They are a floating world of our spirits, and music to drift along to life’s transitory current.
